Amazing Facts About Valley Crossroads Seventh-day Adventist Church
A Rich History
- Established Legacy: Valley Crossroads Seventh-day Adventist Church has been a pillar of faith and community support for over 65 years. Our church was initially part of a three-phase plan to build a church, fellowship hall, and gym on the corner of Glenoaks and Filmore, with the final phase of constructing a gym set to begin in 2024.
Community Impact
- Pandemic Response: During the COVID-19 pandemic, our Community Service Ministry played a crucial role in supporting the community by hosting vaccine and testing stations, distributing PPE supplies, and maintaining our regular food and clothing giveaways.
- Thanksgiving Day Feed: Our annual Thanksgiving Day Feed invites the community to enjoy a traditional home-cooked dinner. This event typically attracts between 350-500 individuals and includes food and clothing giveaways, as well as meal deliveries to the homeless and nearby housing projects.
Dynamic Outreach
- Sabbath Under the Tree: When we couldn’t use our fellowship hall during the pandemic, we innovatively moved our gatherings outdoors for “Sabbath under the Tree,” inviting the community to join us for meals and fellowship during our food and clothing giveaways.
- Pathfinder Club Revival: With faith and fortitude, we rebuilt our Pathfinder Club by joining forces with the Sylmar Spanish Club, creating a vibrant program for children and teens.
Diverse and Inclusive
- Valley Village: We affectionately call ourselves the Valley Village, reflecting our multi-generational, culturally diverse congregation. Our church family includes a thriving children’s ministry, a dynamic youth ministry, and various adult programs.
- Religious Liberty Ministry: During the pandemic, our Religious Liberty team was proactive in hosting vaccination drives and distributing masks and test kits, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
Innovative Programs
- Health and Wellness: We host online and live health fairs, wellness workshops, community baby showers, and drive-by baby showers, providing essential health resources and support to our community.
- Homeless Outreach: For over 20 months during the pandemic, our dedicated team provided sack lunches, toiletries, clothes, blankets, coats, and bottled water to the unhoused in Van Nuys and Hollywood every Sabbath.
Music and Worship
- Music Ministry Transition: Our Music Ministry is currently in transition, following the retirement of our minister of music after more than 17 years of service. We have a newly hired musician and are exploring the potential hire of a second musician to lead the VC Chorale and Children’s Choir.
Future Vision
- Building Campaign: After a pause during the pandemic, our capital campaign to complete the final phase of our building plan is back in motion. We expect to break ground on our new gym in 2024, enhancing our facilities and expanding our community outreach capabilities.
